In the family of Martin Ryerson Kays and Mary A Kays. Lived at Sunnyside, Lafayette Township, Sussix Co. one of 6 children, incl one-time Sheriff John T. (or S.) Kays, Newton. Dau Sarah Ellen m. a McLaughlin and family well-known in Brooklyn. Bu Newton, b. 7 Oct 1838. Well-to-do family. Mary A. had long obit, d. age 93, was living with son John. 2. John, Hardyston, age 30, butcher, with Elizabeth 61 (mother?), two little boys Levy and Samuel. Living next to Benj H. Kays, butcher, 39, wife Anna H, and two ch, lots of helpers. 3. John W, age 8, son of Benj. H, listed in #2. 4. John, 10 months old, Frankford, Sussex, son of Anthony Kays age 39 and wife Elizabeth, 4 other children. 5.John Kayse, age 14, Stillwater, Sussex, son of Lanson B. Keys and Nancy, The parents are on the last 2 lines of previous page and spelled Keys, ch. next page spelled Kayse.
There is also a Case family in Lafayette Twp, Sussex,two men. John Case Jr, age 28 married to Anna M and little boys Alfred and George. (p1) John O. Case, age 44, with wife Jane and large family from 17-3. (p13)
Only the first is of the age to be a candidate, and he stayed in Newton, did not move to Monroe. |
