Obituary30 April 197030 April 1970, Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, Easton Express Obituary:. Arthur E. Rice, 87, of 840 Williams St.,, died last night at the Eastwood Convalescent Home, Wilson, where he was a patient since Nov. 1, 1969. He was ill a year.

Mr. Rice was a blacksmith. He was employed by the Lehigh Valley Railroad for more than 50 years, retiring in 1940. He had a small blacksmith shop at his home until several years ago.

Born Sept. 30, 1882, in Easton, he was a son of the late Wm. and Anna Kreil Rice.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Easton and had served on the church council. He was a charter member of the old Lehicton Lodge, IOOF, Easton and a member Aluta Lodge 488, IOOF, Nazareth and Washington Camp 542, POS of A. Wilson. He played baseball with the old Pioneer team. A Republican, in 1962, he was instrumental in bringing William Scranton to Easton when he was running for governor.

His wife, the former Gertrude Brandau, died in 1963. They observed their 57th wedding anniversary in 1962.

Survivors include a son, Arthur J. Rice, Easton; four daughters, Mrs. Loring Bonney and Mrs. Aubrey Bougher, both of Easton; Mrs Merryl Rentschler, Bethlehem Twsp.; Miss Leona Rice, South Orange, NJ; a sister, Mrs. Violet Heil, Phillipsburg; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be held at 11 AM, Saturday at the Strunk Funeral Home, Easton. Interment will be at Hay's Cemetery.

Her husband, Clarence N. Heil, died April 15, 1962.
