His wife Bridget came in October 1873, so he probably came over before she did, and she followed with the children. Other documents show that Nora's twin was Frank, perhaps one or the other was a middle name.

Biography

Research Note18341834 Aughagower, Tuam Diocese, County Mayo, Ireland. There is an interesting group of baptisms on 14 Dec 1834, in the Catholic Parish Register, Tuam Diocese, Aughagower Parish:

Mary, of Pat and Rose Burke, Mineen, Pat & Margaret Kelly Sponsors.

Bridget, of Pat and Mary Burke, Terrin, ____ Hanahan & Hanora Shaughan, Sponsors

Mary, of Lim and Bridget Duffy, Derinhed, Walter Kelly & Cally Duff, Sponsors.

Some of these names may be incorrectly transcribed. They are hard to read. I don't know the significance of the word after the parents' names -perhaps farm names or villages. The names are common ones, but there are a number of names in this group later seen in Bridget's married family, Patrick, Burke, Kelly, Mary, Hanora.
BirthDecember 1834Bridget Burke was born in December 1834 in Ireland. Her obituary in 1907 says that she was 65. If correct, she would have been born about 1842.

A private tree on Ancestry states she was born in Ballina, Co Mayo Island Rosedent.1
Immigration20 October 1873She immigrated on 20 October 1873 to New York City, New York County, New York, from Liverpool, England. Bridget and her five children, Mary, Patrick, Catharine, Bridget, and Ann immigrated from Ireland in 1873. The traveled steerage class, on the Celtic, from Liverpool, England to New York. The Celtic, William H. Thompson, Master, departed Liverpool 9 Oct 1873, and arrived in New York 20 Oct 1873. There were 290 steerage passengers aboard and 83 saloon or cabin passengers. The ship also carried a wide variety of stores such as casks of wine and other spirits, tea, tobacco, sugar, cigars, molasses, as well as merchandise and mail.

Irish passengers from the north often traveled to Liverpool to board their ships, and those from southern Ireland often left from Queenstown, now Cobh, County Cork.

The Celtic was a four-mast, one funnel ship built by Harland and Wolff of Belfast, Ireland, for the White Star line. Its maiden voyage was in October 1872. Its capacity was 150 first-class passengers, 50 second-class and 800 third-class (steerage).

Philip Kleinle, brother of Wilhelm Kleinle

Biography

Birth2 August 1857Philip Kleinle was born on 2 August 1857 in Wilferdingen, Baden, Germany. Wilferdingen is now (2017) in Baden-Wurttemberg, on the river Pfinz, between Karlsruhe and Pforzheim. In 1973 it was incorporated into Remchingen.

There is a Birth and Baptism on Family Search in the database "Deutschland Geburten und Taufen", 1558-1898, FHL film 1192047), of Philipp Kleinle, b. 2 Aug 1857, baptised 9 Aug 1857, Religion: Evangelisch, Wilferdingen, Karlsruhe, Baden. Father Philipp Kleinle, mother Wilhelmine Mueller.

The father's name may have been Georg Philipp, because another record is the birth of Wilhelmine, 1 Mar 1851, same location, father Georg Philipp Kleinle and mother Wilhelmine Mueller.

Those same parents also had Juliane Kleinle 1 Dec 1859, and Juliane was the daughter of Wilhelm and Barbara Zachman who died at age 6.

There is also a Catharine Kleinle who married a Johannes Zachmann, I see them as parents in 1858 in Wilferdingen.1
Immigration1873He immigrated in 1873 to United States 1900 census says he immigrated in 1863. 1910 census says 1875. On Family Search, I found a record for a Ph. Kleinle, arrived 26 Jul 1873, in Baltimore. He was age 16, which would match his age. It states his birthplace as Germany, Occupation Farmer, Ship Name "Ohio", port of departure Bremen. I was then able to find the image of the passenger list on Ancestry.com (attached).

The website Auswanderer aus Wilferdingen lists a Philipp Kleinle departing in 1873, and makes it seem likely that the 1873 Baltimore arrival was the Philipp from Wilferdingen.

In a letter that Philipp wrote for his family in 1934, he states that he immigrated to Baltimore in 1873, arriving 2 days before his birthday, which is 2 Aug. He says that he had two uncles living in Baltimore, David Mueller and Wilhelm Mueller, which is why he originally went there.2,3
Marriage13 January 1880He and Barbara Zachman were married on 13 January 1880 at Zion Lutheran Church in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, Philipp Kleinle, parents: Georg u. Phillipina Kleinle
Barbara Kleinle (in the column for parents, it gives only her maiden name, Barbara Zachmann.
Both residents of Easton. Witness Emma Pfalteicher.

Although the parents' names are not consistent, I think Philipp was the brother of Wilhelm, Barbara's first husband. I need to search further in the Wilferdingen church records.4
Census1 June 1880He appeared in the census 1 June 1880 at 307 Brodhead Street in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Philip is listed as: Philip (age 22, Married, Painter, born in Baden),

Biography

Birth21 October 1848Barbara Zachman was born on 21 October 1848 in Wilferdingen, Baden, Germany. In "Deutschland Geburten und Taufen, 1558-1898," database, FamilySearch, Barbara's birth is listed on this date, and her christening the next day. Christening place listed as Evangelisch, Wilferdingen, Karlsruhe, Baden.

Mother's name is listed as Barbara Zachmann, and Mother's father's name as Johann Philipp Zachmann.

That is a little confusing, because it sounds like she was given her mother's maiden name as a last name, or perhaps her mother also married a Zachman. I do not see any listing of her father.

In any case, it is clear that the Kleinle's and the Zachmann's both came from Wilferdingen, and had connections there, as well as here in Pennsylvania.
Baptism22 October 1848She was baptized on 22 October 1848 at Alte Evangelische Kirche in Wilferdingen, Baden, Germany.
Immigration1869She immigrated in 1869 to United States The 1900 census says that she immigrated 30 years before in 1870. However, she married Wilhelm at St. John's Lutheran in 1869, so I am guessing this date was "rounded off." The 1910 census lists her immigration date as 1869.

The website Auswanderer aus Wilferdingen lists Barbara Zachmann leaving Wilferdingen, and confirms the 1869 date. What is interesting is that the list includes two Barbara Zachman's, both with date of 1869, and one of them says "Mit den Kindern" -- "with the children". I have not yet found Barbara Zachman on a passenger list. I have not found Barbara Zachman in an 1870 census.1,2,3
Marriage15 September 1869Wilhelm Kleinle and she were married on 15 September 1869 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 330 Ferry Street, in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania,4
Death of Daughter28 July 1877On 28 July 1877, Barbara suffered the loss of her daughter Julianna
Death of Spouse27 April 1878On 27 April 1878, Barbara suffered the loss of her spouse Wilhelm. At the time of his death, she was 2 months pregnant with her 5th child.
Marriage13 January 1880Philip Kleinle and she were married on 13 January 1880 at Zion Lutheran Church in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, Philipp Kleinle, parents: Georg u.

I need to search further in the Wilferdingen church records.5

Barbara (wife, age 70)

This census lists Philip and Barbara as born in Penna., which shows how sometimes the enumerators just mindlessly filled in the columns.

They live next to George and Myrtle Merwarth.

BirthNovember 1831Ernest Kreil was born in November 1831 in Konigsbach, Germany.
Immigration1854He immigrated in 1854 from Konigsbach. There are several Konigsbachs in Germany. One of them is in Baden, and the following records have some similarity to Ernest Kreil's family:

The Landesarchiv Baden-Wurttemberg website lists 1854 as the immigration date for these people. The 1900 census gives Ernest Kreil's immigration date as 1850, and the 1910 census gives 1840.

Juliane (Witwe von Johann, Erwachsene, mit den Kindern)

Two more Kreyl's left in 1855:

Johann Adam: Beruf: Schuhmacher. mit der Frau.
Katharina: (Ehefrau von Johann Adam)

There is also a village named Konigsbach in Bavaria, in Pfalz, Neustadt Haardt. Familysearch has online images of record books of "Aus- und Einwanderung". It is in script.

Even though this says Thomas, it must be Ernest. The address matches the Directory of 1908, age is close, birthplace, the fact that he immigrated, although 10 years different from 1900 census, and widowed [Anna M. died in 1909] and his grandson still living with him, although it says Russell A. rather than R. I notice that Ernest's wife was interchangeably referred to as Anna or Mary, and perhaps Ernest also had a middle name.

Biography

Birth9 May 1870Frederick Kreil was born on 9 May 1870 in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
Newspaper Mention21 August 1896The 21 August 1896 edition of the Easton Free Press, Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, reported South Easton News:

A Child Deserted by its Mother

The Father Arrested for Deserting his Family. The Mother has Disappeared

John Messer, proprietor of the brick works, on Delaware street, on Tuesday afternoon found an 18 month-old child in the brick yard, which he learned had been deserted by its mother, Mrs. Frederick Kriel. He took the child to the residence of William Walter, corner of Lincoln and Delaware streets, and then informed Officer Stocker. The latter made an investigation of the case and found that the mother had disappeared and that the father, Frederick Kriel, had deserted his family, and the mother being unable to provide for the children, had left the infant in the brick yard. The officer went before Justice Steiner and swore out a warrant for the arrest of the husband and father for desertion. He was arrested last evening by Constable Werkheiser and was taken before Justice Steiner and held for a hearing this evening.

Constable Werkheiser will take the child to the county poor house this afternoon. The other children have also disappeared and it is thought they are somewhere in Phillipsburg with their mother.

[2019 Note: Delaware St. is now called Reynolds St., between Centre and Coal Sts. In the 1894 Directory of South Easton, John D. Messer is listed as a brick manufacturer, residing at 713 Grant St. At that time, and for many years, Ernst Kreil, Frederick's father, lived at 620 Grant St.

William Walter is listed as a brick manufacturer, residing at 434 Delaware, which the news article says is the corner of Delaware and Lincoln. On the 1874 South Easton map, a Brick Yard is shown on open property of A. Transue, near Centre Street. At the time of this article it may have extended further east towards Delaware.]
Newspaper Mention25 August 1896The 25 August 1896 edition of the Easton Free Press, Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, reported Frederick Kreil held for Court

The Mother Who Deserted Her Child Appears at the Hearing

Frederick Kreil, the alleged husband of the woman who deserted her child in the brickyard, and who was arrested charged with desertion, was given a hearing last evening before Justice Steiner.

The mother of the child appeared at the hearing and said after she left her child, she went to the home of her parents in Phillipsburg. She had left the child on the suggestion of friends because the father refused to do anything for her or the child. They were not married, but had lived together for four years and followed boating on the Morris canal. He had always treated her cruelly and had deserted her and had gone to live with his parents in Browntown.

Kreil, when asked by the Justice why he refused to care for the child, said he did not love it and had never carried nor held it except when it was christened on the boat by Rev. Isaac Cook, of Phillipsburg, when he had named it Raymond Russell Kreil.

Kreil was held in $300 bail to appear at court to answer a charge of desertion, and as soon as Justice Steiner was through with him, Constable Werkheiser served a warrant charging Kreil with non-support. The complaint was made by the woman some time ago before Justice Young, of Easton. The prisoner was held for a hearing next Saturday.

It was the intention of Constable Werkheiser to have a warrant issued charging the woman with abandoning her child, but changed his mind after he heard the story of the cruel treatment she had undergone.

The child was taken to the poorhouse yesterday afternoon.
