(60, value of real estate $1500) Amanda Mack (26), William Mack (28, Mason), Mary Trittenbach (24), Agnes Trittenbach (19), Mary Mack (9) John Mack (4) This census would put Amanda's birth at 1824, 12 years later than her gravestone.3 |

I assume these are Mary's students. There is a servant age 21 with a one-year-old child. No hint about Josephine, the supposed mother of William. William became a veterinarian, lived at 2008 Hay Terrace in Wilson, and died in 1953. His death certificate lists his father as John G. Mock and for mother's maiden name it says Unknown. I don't like the form that asks for Mother's Maiden Name, because if they don't know the maiden name, they often don't bother to put the first name. So Unknown doesn't necessarily mean the mother was unknown, just that the informant did not know the maiden name. The Informant was Maude Short, same address, probably his daughter. This census puts Amanda's birth date about 1808. |
