Widow of Elias Roberts who was killed by the Indians July 3, 1778 at Susquehannah." Kim Branagan notes on her Rootsweb site that she was told by local historian Daniel H. Weiskotten that Evergreen Cemetery was not opened until 1814. Susanna Roberts was one of about 23 people who were probably moved from the old Village Cemetery on Green Street. She is buried in section J, lot 67, grave 10. This is discussed in Weiskotten's article on the Cazenovia Village cemeteries on the Rootsweb Cazenovia page. Susannah Roberts is mentioned in this article. Her gravestone reads: "In memory of Susanna Roberts Jan 2 1804 aged 76 years. The list of those buried in the Roberts Cemetery tells a heart-breaking story of Alvory's first marriage: Roberts, ______, daughter of Alvory and Betsey Roberts, died 1832, age 20 years 10 months 2 days, (stone not found in 1994, data from Gallup list). Roberts, Alvory, died February 14, 1849, age 58 years 2 months 7 days. Roberts, Ella L., daughter of Seth and Mary C. Roberts, died September 3, 1852, age 6 years 10 months 8 days. Roberts, Huldah L., daughter of Alvory and Betsey Roberts, (died October 9, 1842 / February 11, 1813, age 15), (date of death and age rotted away in 1994, not 1813?). Roberts, Lindsley A., son of Alvory and Betsey Roberts, died October 14, 1835, age 18 years 9 months 11 days. Roberts, Lurancy, daughter of Alvory and Betsey Roberts, died August 26, 1855, age 22 years 21 days. Roberts, Permelia, daughter of Alvory and Betsey Roberts, died May 1, 1842, age 20 years 8 months 4 days. Roberts, Sabrina K., daughter of Alvora and Betsey Roberts, died January 23, 1843, age 27 years 7 months. Roberts, Seth, died March 2, 1856, age 37 years. Most of those listed were children from his first marriage with Betsey (last name not known), and they died at ages from 15 to 27. I would love to know what they died from. Alvory's son Seth also died young, at 37 in 1856. Seth married Mary Ann Coe in 1844, and had 4 children. One of their children is listed above, Ella, who died at 6 years of age. Alvory himself was not long-lived, dying at age 58, in 1849, three years after his second married to Lydia Munger. This burial ground was on Roberts' land, which had been owned by Amasa Roberts, and was passed down to his children, with this plot reserved for use as a burying ground. | |
