GRO Death Register confirms occupation, wife, street, age, parents, Cause of death Chronic Bronchitis accompanied by --unreadable--, Signature of Informant, Jane Mitchell, Daughter, present. " Another residence is not listed for Jane, so presumably she resided at home.
BurialHe was buried at Cluny Cemetery in Forres, Moray, Scotland. Gravestone inscription reads, "Erected by Jane Mitchell in memory of her father, mother, and sisters, MARY B. MITCHELL died Forres, 12.5.1858, aged 17 years. MARGARET C. MITCHELL died Forres, 18.8.1860, aged 16 years. DAVID MITCHELL, blacksmith, died Forres, 1.8.1862, ages 56 years. JANE MITCHELL died Forres, 8.3.1868, ages 64 years. JESSIE MITCHELL, died Forres, 23.5.1872, ages 37 years." This is a typed card, photocopied by the Moray Local Heritage Council, and on the card, the 2 of 1872 in Jessie's date is handwritten. Jessie does not appear in the 1841 census, where she should if she had been born in 1835, and Jane was born in 1835. So Jessie's death year may not be correct here.

He was the second son, and was named according to the naming convention, after his mother's father.

His stone in Rock Creek Cemetery looks, in the photo, as if it reads Aug 6, 1826.1

There is an entry for David McQueen in the Index to Naturalization Records of the US Supreme Court for the District of Columbia, 1802-1909. It lists David McQueen, Naturalization Papers, R.B. Mar 26 and what looks like 1855 but could be some other date in the '50's and could even be 30-something but doubtful. R.B. stands for Rough Bundles.3

March Term 1850. On this 26th day of March 1850, personally appears in open court David McQueen, who makes oath in due form that he is now of the age of 23 years; that he arrived in the United States in the month of June 1835, being three years and more before he attained the age of twenty one years, and has continued to reside therein to this time; that he is a native of Scotland, and at the time of his arrival in the U. States, owed allegiance to the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland; and that for three years next preceeding this time it has been bone fide his intentnion to become a citizen of the United States and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign prince, potentate, state and sovereignty, whatever and particularly to the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland.

And at the same time personally appears Archibald McAlister, a citizen of the U. States, who also makes oath that he is well acquainted with David McQueen who is about to apply to be admitted a citizen of the U. States, that he has resided within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States for five years at least last past, and one year at least last past, within the District of Columbia and that during the whole of that time he has behaved as a man of good moral character attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same. Newspaper Mention25 March 1859The 25 March 1859 edition of the Evening Star, Washington, District of Columbia, reported that David McQueen and others on an I.O.O.F. committee to make arrangements for "the New York Celebration" were to meet. The committee included other Scottish names including Rich, Ferguson, Stuart, and McLean. I.O.O.F. is the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The American branch was founded in 1819. In DC, the lodge met at the Odd Fellows Hall at 419 Seventh St NW, which was built in 1845.

Research Note18721872. In searching DC newspapers for David McQueen, there are several references to a lawsuit and a sale concerning a schooner, the William Henry, 48 ft. David McQueen was a grocer, so I cannot believe this had anything to do with him. However, I note it because it is odd that if Margaret McQueen is his sister, her husband is named William Henry.

Various articles around 1872 and 1873. Shirley J. King vs. Thomas Shreves and David McQueen. The schooner was at a dock at the foot of King St, Alexandrie, VA. Well adapted tot he river or oyster trade. New.

There was also a fishing boat named the David McQueen.

The Evening Star of the same date has a similar notice, "Will of David McQueen admitted to probate and letters issued to G. C. Hercus and Richard Henderson, bond $11,000."
DNA Clues2018DNA Match with a living descendant As of 2018, based on an Ancestry.com autosomal DNA test, there is a 29 cM match between descendants of Margaret McQueen, through her granddaughter Winifred (Holly) Tilley and a descendant of David McQueen, through his grandson Edgar Hewitson Monroe. This DNA match is compatible with other genealogical evidence that Margaret and David were siblings, both the children of James McQueen and Elizabeth Mitchell.

The residue of the estate is given to the latter two.
