Longcliff Insane Hospital, Logansport, Indiana
Longcliff Insane Hospital, also called Logansport State Hospital and Northern Insane Hospital, was established in 1888 on the bluffs of the Wabash River. At one time the hospital ran a dairy farm to provide occupational therapy for patients. However, the dairy was closed in late 1960s because of amendments made to the Fair Labor Standards Act, which meant that the work therapy patients were required to be paid an hourly wage. About 150 patients worked there at the time. The dairy farm is now Longcliff Museum. The hospital is still in operation.
