Obituary | 15 November 1929 | 15 November 1929, Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, Morning Call Obituary:. Dr. V. J. Gangewere Dies in his 50th Year of Apoplectic Stroke
Deep sorrow was manifest generally throughout the community last evening as word went about of the sudden death of Dr. Victor J. Gangewere, one of Allentown's leading physicians and highly esteemed citizens, who passed away at 7.30 o'clock at the Allentown hospital a few hours after he had suffered an apoplectic stroke at his home, 21115 Hanover avenue. He was in his fiftieth year.
Dr. Gangewere was attending to his practice as usual yesterday up until three o'clock in the afternoon at which hour he was stricken. He had just attended to a patient in his office at his place of residence and a few moments after entering his living quarters he collapsed. Dr. Joseph Weaver was immediately summoned to the house and Dr. Gangewere was taken at once to the Allentown hospital in the ambulance from that institution.
The doctors at the hospital used every means known to medical science in an effort to save the life of the physician, but he failed to rally and sank slowly until the end.
Dr. Gangewere was the son of Anaman J. and Jane, nee Kilpatrick, Gangewere, was born in Center Valley, Lehigh county, on April 13, 1880. His preparatory education was acquired in the public schools and the Millersville State Normal school from which he was graduated.
He then taught school for two terms in Springfield, Bucks county, after which he became a student at the Perkiomen Seminary, from which he was graduated in 1903. Matriculating at the Medico Chirurgical College, at Philadelphia, he was graduated from this institution in the class of 1907.
Dr. Gangewere was then engaged for a time in the performance of special work in the Medico dispensary, after which he purchased the practice of Dr. R. B. Klotz, at Rittersville, in August, 1907.
[There is a further long and detailed description of his community activities, which were many.]
Besides his widow, Cora, nee Weirbach, a native of Pleasant Valley, Bucks county, he is survived by two sons, Woodrow, a student at the University of Pennsylvania, and Chester, attending Temple College, Philadelphia. ... Interment will be made in the Grandview cemetery. |
