Many Chace's, Wheatons, Barney's, Luthers, and many others ubiquitous in that community. The 1790 Swansea Census is a wonderful document. It is very clear and readable. It is only two pages, of three columns each, and it is an amazing collection of names. The attached screenprint is just a small excerpt. Anyone getting deeply into these families should print out both pages. |

Burial | 28 August 1791 | She was buried on 28 August 1791 at Grassy Hill Cemetery in Falls Village. The Hale Collection, for which WPA workers transcribed a majority of Connecticut cemetery inscriptions in the early 1930's, transcribed her gravestone as "Belden, Tabitha, wife of Bartholomew Belden, died Aug. 26, 1791, age 28." It is interesting that in the same cemetery there are children of Lieut. Jonathan Belding, spelled with the "ing". Obviously around the time of the Revolution, the spelling was fluid. There is a Findagrave burial in Grassy Hill Cemetery, Falls Village, Litchfield County, CT, with a stone that is very difficult to read (see photo from Findagrave), for Tabitha Belden. The Findagrave record creator states it is the daughter of Joshua Belden, and that no dates were inscribed nor age at death. However, in the photo, the inscription is somewhat readable.3,4 |
