Obituary | 23 June 2011 | 23 June 2011, Boise, Idaho, Idaho Statesman Obituary:. Frances Jeanette Cooper Korman "Frankie" died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley in Boise. Funeral services will be Friday, June 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Summers Funeral Homes, 1205 W. Bannock Street, Boise. Burial will follow at Morris Hill Cemetery. Frances Jeanette Cooper Korman was born June 25, 1920 to Edna and Arthur F. Cooper. She was the third of 12 children. Frankie and her siblings were raised on the homestead at Upper Fords Creek above Orofino, Idaho. She had many memories growing up on the farm. Her earliest memory was her father shooting a bear from the porch of the cabin. She related the story of rushing into a burning barn to rescue two sobbing children. She grew into a beautiful young lady and caught the eye of Mont Kerr. She was 17 when they married. Three children were born from that marriage, Ione, Sam and Denton. The family lived on the Clear Creek in Kooskia, ID. Frankie chopped wood, cooked over a wood stove, drew water from the creek, drove the children to school driving over thin boards that kept them from falling into a huge whirlpool below, and did all she could to take care of her family. The family pulled up stakes and moved to Boise in 1950. Frankie took her family on many trips between Boise and Orofino to visit. Frankie and Mont were later divorced. For many years Frankie worked downtown at the Skaggs Drug Store, later called Payless and Rite Aide. She worked in the cosmetics department providing friendly service to most everyone that lived in Boise at that time. She met and married Hank Korman. Kandy was born from that marriage. Frankie was a gracious hostess as they entertained family and friends at their home. They also enjoyed the horse races at Le Bois Park. After Hank passed away, she was a resident at Hillcrest Retirement and Ashley Manor. She was cheerful and enjoyed the company of the other residents. She was always a lady and stood out as a striking woman. She is survived by two sisters, Mabel Grogan, of Priest River, and Effie McAllister, of Orofino; two brothers, Ollie Cooper, of Orofino, and Lloyd Cooper, of McCall; two sons, Sam (Nita), of Boise and Denton (Wendy), of Panguitch, UT; a daughter, Kandy (Tom) Compton, of Boise; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Hank; daughter, Ione; seven brothers and sisters; and two grandchildren. The family would like to thank Life Care Center of Treasure Valley for their kind loving care during her final days. |

History Note | 1805 | In 1805 in Pittston, Luzerne County, the following event took place: Pittston is on the east side of the Susquehanna River, north of Wilkes Barre. (Salem Township is on the west side of the river, well below Wilkes-Barre and below Shickshinny, and Hazle Township is basically Hazelton, on the east side of the river, more or less opposite Salem Township.) Salem Twp is named after Salem, CT, and is referred to in 1773 in Windham, CT, where a committee sent men to lay out a township. History of Luzerne County, p. 620, re: Pittston: "Beginning with 1805 the landlords of old times were Peter Decker, Eleazer Cary, Asaph Pratt and William Hart." Asaph Pratt is in Lehman, Luzerne County, in the 1830 census, a male 30-39, a female 20-29, and a little girl under 5. Lehman is west of Wilkes Barre, very rural. Looks like the same man, Asaph W. and Eliza, in 1855 NY state census, in Chenango, Broome County, NY. Julia B. is 21, b. in Penna. Four more children, all born in Pa. Asaph is born in Columbia County, NY (on the Hudson, north of Poughkeepsie) and Eliza in CT. He is a farmer, and son Edmond, 18, is a clerk. Other children W.A., Francis and Mary F. Asaph is buried in Jim Thorpe. Findagrave record: 3 Oct 1798 (no location) - 18 Oct 1868 (no location) Mauch Chunk Cemetery, Jim Thorpe. Wife Eliza Worthington (1804 - 1874) Daughter Mary Foster (Pratt) Erwin, bu. Nisky Hill Cemetery, Bethlehem 1846-1887, m. Bertine S. Erwin. So Asaph's family does not appear to be connected to the Pratt's I am researching. |
Census | 1810 | James Pratt appeared in the census 1810 in Salem, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. James is listed as: James Pratt -- could this possibly be the father of the James Pratt who married Mary Ann Brownfield? Research Note | 5 September 2005 | 5 September 2005 Van Buren County, Iowa, Posting on Iagenweb.org Query Board. Janice Redden posted on 9/5/2005: My name is Janice Redden. I was born and raised in Van Buren Co.. When I was growing up, I always wondered about my great, great, grandfather, but no one in my family had records or seemed to know where he came from. He appeared on the scene in Union Co. Indiana where he married my great, great, grandmother. She died in 1847 in Indiana and he brought himself and the 4 boys to Van Buren Co. where her parent were living. He and the boys were sick when they arrived. He and one of the boys died in December of 1847 leaving no trail as to where he came from. We have been working on this for years. We know her family was Baptist and might have also attended the Methodist church. There were two churches in Utica, Iowa in the early days. One a Baptist and the other a Methodist. Does anyone have any idea who might have these old records to these churches from Utica, Iowa. We don't know but are hoping there might be some records there listing his name, were he came from and who his father and mother were. I would appreicate any help you can give. Thanks in advance. Janice Redden Linda Box replied: James Pratt is also my great great grandfather. Like you we have been looking for his parents for a long time, with no luck. I have a picture of Mary Ann's mother (Sarah Price). She raised the boys after James and James Jr. died. I have some information on the boys and on Mary Ann, but nothing past James. Would gladly exchange info with you. Linda Box ldbox2004@yahoo.com Janice answered: Received your query. Would be glad to exchange what information I have. We also have a picture of Mary Ann's mother (Sarah Price), but we don't have any information on Mary Ann herself. Only that she died in Indiana. We do not know where. I spent one week in Indianapolis at the Indiana State Library doing research. There is not much information coming out of that part of Indiana. They don't even have tax records. I did find where the Brownfield's sold their property to a Deam and McKey families in 1846 when they moved to Iowa. There is a possibility that this is where James and Mary Ann were residing in Indiana but can't seem as yet to come up with any other information on them. Which family line do you come from? We do have some information on the boys and their families, but nothing that leads up to who James's parents were. I have some thoughts after doing my research, but haven't come up with the proof to back my thoughts. If you have an e-mail address, it would be easier to communicate with you this way. Which one of the boys is your family from? My great grandfather was Richard Porter Pratt that married Adeline Johnston. Janice Redden jlouiseknit@springnet1.com Janice posted again 3/27/2006: Hi Linda, Sorry it has taken me so long to get back with you from October 2005. It seems genealogy came to halt when I had more pressing things in my life that were taking place. Trying to get back to it. Takes a lot of time. If you have an e-mail address, please send it to me instead of me having to go through the query. I have tried the address in blue when you e-mail me starting out as ld and 1d but both have come back to me. If this is suppose to be the e-mail, what am I doing wrong. Anyway, Manly being your grandfather, and John being my grandfather, we might have some of the same information. Several years ago, Celia Pratt Daniel put together a family book. These books were distributed at the annual Pratt family reunion held in Bonapart Iowa in July. Each family paid her the cost of having it produced. Was there anyone from your family line who got one of these books? I looked in the book under Manly and found your name. If there is anyone in your family line who has a copy of this book, you could make copies of it and it would answer many questions along with the names of Robert's children. I will send you the information on Robert's children anyway in case. It would be much easier if I could send it to you directly through e-mail instead of through the query. There has always been a question what the "B" in Robert "B" stood for. Was the "B" in his name for Benton? Do you have information as to whether it is Benton for sure? We have quite a bit of information on the Brownfields and Johnstons from that book I was telling you about, but we do not have much information on Stephen Bilby Johnston's family. Adaline's father. We do not know his parents names or bothers or sisters. We do know he was born January 28, 1814 in Washington Co. Pa., but we can not go back any further than that. We can go forward and have the information from the time he was married to Adaline Johnston. We do not have a picture of Mary Ann's sister, Ruth. Would like to have this. Do you have a picture of Mary Ann? Like I said, we do have a picture of Mary Ann's mother. Also, would like the pictures of Richard Porter's children and grandchildren and the headstones. My parents are buried in Dibble cemetery and I have been there and seen the headstones, but never had a camera with me so they would be nice to have. What information on Oliver Alva do you have? We have his children's names and one son, Samuel Pratt we have some information on. It has been interesting to me as to why Mary Ann's parents put her name on their headstone in her maiden name. I know they have all the children listed, but it seems a bit unusual for it to be in her maiden name. Better close, please let me know how you want me to send the information on Robert's children. That matches several of the John Pratt children, who were born in Fayette County and married around that same year in Union County, Indiana. There is not much information about James Pratt. But some trees say he was born in Salem, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, about 1810. I don't know the source of that, but both John Pratt, Sr., and James C. Pratt, appear in censuses in the early 1800's in Luzerne Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. There is a James Pratt in the 1810 Salem census, with 4 boys under 10, so the youngest one could possibly be this James. More research is necessary to see if this Pratt family has any connection with James and Avarilla (Bonar) Pratt. Another possibility for the DNA match with Jerry Hagen could be Royce. But I will gather information on this Pratt-Brownfield family, and see if we have any other matches related to it. It may be part of the same Pratt family, even if our DNA match is something else. |

Biography | This biography is posted on Sarah's Findagrave page. It does not give a source. I looked in History of Van Buren County, Iowa, and did not see her listed. Mrs. Sarah Brownfield, the subject of this sketch, was born in Bartlett County Virginia, on Oct. 14th, 1796 therefore lacking but a few months of being 99 years old, at the time of her death, which occurred on the 10th, at her daughter's Mrs. Rebecca Gould's. Grandmother Brownfield while very young moved with her father's family, whose name was Price, to Pennsylvania. They settled in Fayette County, where she grew into womanhood. In her twenty-second year on May 31st, 1818, she was married to Mr. Robert Brownfield of Fayette County, Penn., which was the place of his nativity, of this Union ten children were born, three boys and seven girls, of whom three are living, namely Dr. E.P. Brownfield of Farmington, Mrs. Ruth Israel, near Eldon; and Mrs. Rebecca Gould - Birmingham, IA. In 1835, the family moved to Indiana. They lived in that State until 1846 when they moved to Van Buren County, Iowa where she has sinced lived. Her husband died at Utica in this county Sept. 1857. She never remarried, living since the death of her husband with her children. All speak of her as a kind, devoted christian mother. Mrs. Brownfield was converted in early life and united with the Missionary Baptist Church, or as the are now known, the regular Baptist church. She was baptized in the Spring of 1831 by Elder Estep. The pastor of this Church was Elder Pattin. Thus for over sixty-four years she has served, with an euruest consecrated life, her divine master. Her husband was a member of the church several years before she united with the church. So their walk through life was united and it's are seen in the generations following, most of whom are serving their father's and mother's God. Mother Brownfield was a daughter of the Revolution. Her father served under Geo. Washington as Drum Major in his command. And her husband was a soldier in the War of 1812. Thus it will be seen she leaves a grand patriotic heritage to her children, grandchildren, and great grand children of there are several. | |
