Birth | 25 April 1811 | Abraham Smalley was born on 25 April 1811 in Harrison County, Ohio. Birth and death dates taken from the SAR application of his descendant, Robert S. Smalley, b. 15 Oct 1900. If he is really a son of Richard Smalley and Catherine Emmons, the birth date conflicts with the statement in the Ashland County biography of his brother Richard, which states that Richard was the 8th (i.e. last) child, and 5th son, of Richard and Catherine. So either the 1811 birthdate for Abraham is wrong or the 1805 birthdate for Richard.1 |

Obituary | 27 September 1897 | 27 September 1897, Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio, Obituary:. Abraham Smalley, one of the veteran pioneer residents of Wyandot county, died Saturday afternoon, at 2:30, at his home east of this city. Deceased has been in poor health for several years, gradually, day by day, sinking lower and lower, until dissolution came like the sleep of utter exhaustion. Mr. Smalley was a native of Jefferson county, and was born April 25, 1811. Almost exactly fifty years of his life were spent in this county, indeed, fifty years were spent on one farm, the homestead farm where he died. He was first married Sept. 16, 1832, and to them were born ten children, two of whom still survive, John Smalley of Van Wert, and Mrs. Liddie Russell, of Des Moines, Ia. In 1870 Mr. Smalley was again married, but no children resulted from the last union. Deceased was an honorable, unassuming gentleman and was popular among all who knew him. He was an uncle to Judge Allen Smalley and Hon. M. A. Smalley, and a grandfather to A. K. Smalley. The funeral occurred Monday afternoon, the services being conducted at the Rock Run Church of God by Rev. J. W. Zachman. Interment at Rock Run cemetery. |
