Tilley of 75 Lexington Ave., died Tuesday night in his home. He was born in Granby, Oct. 2, 1861, son of the late John and Mary Ann (Preston) Tilley, and resided in South Hadley Falls and Holyoke most of his life. His father was the founder of the Adaskin Tilley furniture store on Suffolk and Maple Sts., and on his death the store was operated by his sons, Clifton and Trenor Tilley until its closing several years ago. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, and served as treasurer of the church for many years, and was a director at the Hadley Falls Bank for many years. He served for many years in the state militia. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Helen F. (Davis) Tilley, a brother Trenor P. of Holyoke, several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, South Hadley. |

He first married Louisa Duncan 11 February 1879 in Morgan County, Illinois. They had six children, three of whom died young. Louisa Blakeman died in 1900 and was buried in Zion Rimbey Cemetery east of Murrayville.
Next, William married a widow, Emma (Harper) Roberts on 4 March 1902. Emma already had a daughter, Zenia Roberts, from her first marriage and had another, Mary Blakeman, with William.
William was buried in this cemetery with his second wife.1 |

She married William E. Israel on June 17, 1951 and he preceded her in death on June 20, 2018. She is survived by her three sons, Douglas E. (Debra) Israel of Springfield, Gregory M.
