She is survived by three children, including one from Red Wing, one brother, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Chillicothe. Family visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Friends may also call after 8 a.m. and until 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe. Memorials are preferred to United Methodist Church of Chillicothe or the scholarship fund of the Olive Prindle Chapter, NSDAR and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.

Mrs. Calvert A. Sears, 68, died suddenly Saturday morning at her home, 420 20th S.E. Funeral services will be held at the McAuley and Son chapel at 2:30 pm Tuesday, with Doctor Lloyd A. Gustafson, pastor or the First Methodist Church, officiating.

Mrs. Sears was born Ina A. Pratt, Sept 12 1881, near Green City, Mo. She was married to Calvert A. Sears, March 3, 1901, at Green City, Mo.

They lived on a farm near Green City until 1914 when they moved to Eldora. In 1919 they came to Cerro Gordo county, and resided near Burchinal until 5 years ago.

Mrs. Sears was affiliated with the Methodist church at Burchinal, the Queen Rebekah lodge and auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, 2 sons William Sears, Charles City and Warren Harry Sears, Mason City, 4 daughters, Mrs. Ivan Pope, Mason City, Mrs. Russell Pope, Casper Wyo., Mrs. Fred Stockberger, and Mrs. Earl Cline, Mason City, 2 brothers Arthur Pratt, Green City, Mo., and M.M. Pratt, Batavia, Iowa, and 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandhcildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister.

Interment will be at Elmwood cemetery. The McAuley and Son funeral home in charge.

After an illness of almost three years, the last few months steadily growing weaker, William Henry Smalley passed from this life, Monday evening, May 20th, 1907, at 10:45. He had lived to the age of 68 years, 10 months and 12 days, having been born in Waine county, Ohio, July 8, 1838. He removed to Illinois with his parents when quite young; moved from there to Mercer county, Mo. He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Moss Sept. 6, 1860. To this union were born ten children. His wife and eight children survive him. The wife and seven children were at the bedside in time of death.

In 1862 he obeyed the Lord and found many blessings by following the teachings of Jesus.

In August, 1901, he with his family located on a farm five miles southwest of Attica, where the family now reside.

He was a civil war veteran and an honored member of the G.A. R. Post at this place, being Post Commander when stricken.

A large number of friends attended the funeral. There were thirty-seven relatives present.

The wife and children desire us to thank the many friends and community for the interest, help and sympathy extended them in the long tedious illness and death of the companion and father.

Grandma entertained the following visitors on her birthday: Mesdames A. Martin, John Arnold, Jesse Dufur, H. L. Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Babcock. Grandma received a box of Christman dinner from Mrs. R. Yourdan of Anthony.

Obituary28 March 191828 March 1918, Attica, Harper Couny, Kansas, Attica Independent Obituary:. After a long illness and growing weaker for several months, Mrs. Sarah F. Smalley passed away at her home five miles southwest of Attica, Saturday, March 23rd, 1918, at 8:30 A.M. She had reaced the age of 73 years, 2 months and 25 days.

She was born in Woods County, Va., Dec 28, 1844. At the age of four years she moved with her parents to Ohio, and from there to Mercer county, Missouri. In the year of 1860 she was united in marriage with William H. Smalley. To this union were born ten children, eight of whom are living.
The husband and two daughters preceded her to the other world. Mrs. Samantha J. Martin, Cora, Charley, Clint and Jesse Smalley, all of Attica, Kansas; Mrs. Delia Babcock of Crisfield, Kansas; Mrs. Elizabeth Reeves of Mercer, Mo.; and Isaac Smalley of California, are left to mourn the loss of their mother. One brother of the deceased lives at Fullerton, California.

In the year 1888 Mrs. Smalley united with the Baptist church. She later changed her membership to the Methodist church and has always lived a good Christian life and was faithful and patient to the end. She stood all the hardships of the war in the year 1861 as her husband was in the service of his country. She was a kind wife and a loving mother. She leaves thirty-three grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon with Rev. S. M. Day of the Attica Methodist church in charge. The wide friendship of the deceased was attested by the immense gathering of those who wished to pay a last tribute of respect. More than one hundred cars were in the procession from the house to the Attica Cemetery where the interment was made.

He can all our sorrows heal.
When the day of life is fled,
When in Heaven we hope to greet thee,
Where no farewell tear is shed.

Resolved, that we, the members of the Helping Hand Society, have lost in Mrs. Sarah Smalley a faithful friend and loving neighbor. That we sympathize with the sorrowing children and beg to share their sorrow and with them to look forward to the happy meeting in the Great Beyond.
Resolved, that a copy of these resolutions be handed to the children still in the old home; another copy sent to the Attica Independent and that a copy be spread upon the minutes of our Society.
