Newspaper Mention | 19 December 1947 | The 19 December 1947 edition of the Courier-News, Bridgewater Township, Somerset County, New Jersey, reported Westfield: Donald M. Pearsall, 745 Prospect St., who has been chosen by the Union County Board of Freeholders to fill the board vacancy caused by the death of Freeholder Charles E. Smith, will take his seat in Elizabeth on Friday, Jan. 2. Although the new freeholder served four years as a member of the Westfield Town Council from 1930-1934 and is now serving his second term as a member of the Board of Admustment here, this will be the first time he has held an elective county office. He must run at the spring primaries and, if nominated, be a candidate at the general election next November to complete the unexpired term of Mr. Smith. Mr. Pearsall, who is 51, is a native of Westfield, as are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford E. Pearsall, who now live in Melrose, Fla. After attending local schools and graduating from Westfield High, the new freeholder attended New York University's School of Commerce studying business administration, accounting and budgetary control. He was affiliated with the Henry L. Doherty Company, 60 Wall St., until 1922, when he opened a real estate and insurance office in Westfield. He is now a membe rof the firm of Pearsall & Frankenbach. A son, Everson F. Pearsall, an Army Air Force pilot who flew more than 80 combat missions in the China theater and is now secretary of the N.J. State Chapter, Air Reserve Association, is associated with his father in the local business. There is one daughter, Mrs. Joyce Salvator, of this place, and a granddaughter, Nancy Jean Salvator, age three. Mrs. Pearsall is also a Westfielder, being the former Dorothy French. Mr. Pearsall enjoys trapshooting, being a member of the Climax Gun Club of South Plainfield, and also fishing and game hunting. He is president of the Clover Hill Gun Club and a member of Atlas Lodge 125, F. and A.M. of Westfield and is a 32nd degree Mason. The freeholder-elect is past president of the Union County Association of Insurance Agents and of the Westfield Board of Realtors of which he is at present a director. He also is a past vice president of the New Jersey State Association of Insurance Agents. |

The ceremony was performed by Rev. Charlse W. Wright, the pastor of the First Methodist Church, at the home of the bride's parents. The color scheme of the house was yellow and lavender. Miss Edna Pearsall, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. The best man was James A. VanDerveer of New York and the ushers, Dr. Leland C. Davis, of Plainfield, and Dr. Aaron M. Hageman of Bloomfield. There were twelve ribbon bearers who made an aisle for the bridal party with yellow and lavender ribbon. These attendants were dressed in evening gowns of varied colors. They were Miss Estelle Sexton, Mrs. Clifford Ewing, Mrs. Dugald Cameron, Mrs. Donald Pearsall, Mrs. Percival Brundate, Miss Edith Pitcher, Miss Ethel Appley, Miss Dorothy Ganzel, Mrs. Wilbur Harkrader, Miss Isabelle Emery, of this town, and Mrs. Albert Stoll, of East Orange. One hundred and fifty guests were present from Bernardsville, Somerville, Plainfield, New York, Stamford, Conn., Buena Vista, Va., Elizabeth, and this town. After an extended wedding trip they will make their home at 300 North Euclid avenue. The bride is a graduate of the Westfield High School and is a member of the Westfield Musical Club, and is very active in musical circles. She is also a member of the Senior Auxiliary of the Children's Country Home. The groom is a practicing dentist with offices on East Broad street. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and has been practicing in this town for the past five years. |
