Daughter | Catherine Ann Morgan+ (b. 6 September 1821, d. 24 May 1908) |
Research Note | The family was convinced that Catherine's father was a Morgan. The name Morgan was used several times in later generations as a middle name. The name Vanderhoef was never used. In the 1900 census, when she lived with her daughter Matilda Embree in Buena Vista, her name was entered in the census as Catherine M. Pearsall. The information was probably given by Matilda, or her husband. Catherine's gravestone in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ, says Catherine Ann Morgan. Her obituary in Virginia named her Mrs. Catherine Morgan Pearsall. Some male Morgan possibilities were: Charles, youngest son of Captain James. 1775 - 1848, last child born to his wife in Louisiana 1823. Possibly traveled back and forth to New Jersey by sea on business. Age 46 at Catherine's birth. Jonathan, oldest son of General James. 1798-1867. Age 23 at Catherine's birth. Check date of his marriage to Dinah Van Wickle. Charles, son of General James by his second wife, Ann Van Wickle. 1808 - ?. Age 13 at time of Catherine's birth -- too young. Family members who have taken DNA tests have numerous Morgan matches. However, this does not necesssarily prove anything, because if John D. Disbrow was Catherine's grandfather, his wife Susannah Morgan (daughter of Captain James) would presumably be her grandmother, and DNA would flow that route. This is supported by Catherine's use of the middle name Everson for her son Alfred. Everson was the surname of Susannah's mother, wife of Captain James. |
