Research Note | Reason for adding person. I added Andrew Bennett because he lived in New York at the time of Ezra and Lanah, because he was connected to Ezra's cousin Levi Guernsey in a business transaction, and because he was associated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which Ezra and Lanah were also members. He is included on the possibility that he is part of Lanah's Bennett family. | |
Birth | 1770 | Andrew Bennett was born in 1770. Based on his death registry record. |
Property Record | 17 May 1825 | Andrew was involved in a property transaction on 17 May 1825 in New York City, New York County, New York, Quit Claim between 1. Christianna Warner and 2. Andrew Bennett and Levi Guernsey. This transaction involves Levi Guernsey, Ezra Jr's first cousin, and Andrew Bennett, Bennett being the maiden name of Ezra's wife Lenah. Added in the possibility that Andrew was some relative of Lenah. Christianna Warner, administratrix of the estate of Elijah Waner, deceased, releases and quit claims to Andrew Bennett for $40, 4 lots together with "a gore situate in the Eighth Ward" on the east side of Laurens St., each lot 25 ft. wide and 100 ft. long. Bounded westerly, in front, by Laurens St., north by land of Isaac Crane, east (rear) by line halfway between Laurens Street and Wooster St., south by land of Robert M. Livingston. Being the same lots convered by Garrit H. Van Wagenen. This release to relieve lots from lien of a judgement in Common Pleas of NYC against Levi Guernsey and Andrew Bennett for $251.50 docketted 7 Nov 1821 rendered in favor of the party of the first part (Warner). I see the case in the Court of Common Pleas index which is on Family Search, but the actual cases do not seem to be.1 |
Will | 17 November 1846 | He signed a will on 17 November 1846 in New York City, New York County, New York. Daughter Maria was the executor. Daughter Lucinda Ann (deceased) married Warren Hill, 3 children Warren, William and Francis. Son Samuel R. Bennett. Wife Elizabeth. The probate records say that he was a Builder. This matches an Andrew Bennett listed in NYC directories as a carpenter. The probate papers also list a deceased daughter Martha who had married a Cannon or Carman, resided in New Brunswick, NJ, had children Adalaide and Eveline Cannon or Carman. The children were all minors at the time of Andrew's death.2 |
