Redburn can be found on present-day maps but there is no way to tell from Google if any part of the buildings is the same. But they are in the same location, right in the corner where the road to Ardclach Church turns off. Just up the road to the west, past Littlemill, the road to Fornighty turns off. Fornighty is on Muckle Burn, a stream that runs into the Findhorn.4 |

Birth | 1792 | Margaret Baxter was born in 1792. |
Baptism | 14 September 1792 | She was baptized on 14 September 1792 in Duffus, Moray, Scotland. Father: Robert Baxter Mother: Jean Marr. This is 5 years before the birthdate expected by the US census entries. In the Parish Records, for these parents, I see Agnes, 1790, Margaret, 1792, Penelope, 1797, Alexander, 1800, John, 1804 and Robert 1808.1 |
Marriage | 12 April 1836 | James McQueen and she were married on 12 April 1836 in Duffus, Moray, Scotland, "McQueen & Baxter: James McQueen sp.wright, in Burgh-head & Margaret Baxter, Spinster, in Rosiles, were married on banns, 12th April 1836." This marriage took place 3 days before boarding the ship for New York. This compiler believes that "married on banns" means that the obligatory 3 readings of the banns took place on the day of marriage. This could be done for a fee, called the "caution" (pronounced kay-shun). The timing of this marriage raises tantalizing questions of the personal aspects of this marriage, so few days before leaving Scotland forever. We don't know how long James had been a widow. We can only wonder what 18-year-old Margaret McQueen may have felt about her new step-mother. What had happened to the other children, who did not join the newly married couple on the voyage?2 |
In household | 7 October 1855 | She appeared in the household of James McQueen in the census 7 October 1855 at 9th Ward in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. James is listed as3 |
Note | 1863 | In 1863, in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, In 1863, James McQueen is no longer listed in the Brooklyn City Directories (checked through 1871). In 1863, there is a Margaret McQueen, widow, 227 S. 2nd. In 1864, there are two listings for Margaret McQueen, widow, one at Ainslie near Bushwick Ave., and one at Atlantic Ave. near Nostrand Ave. In 1865, there is a Margaret McQueen, widow, at 94 S. 2nd, and a Margaret McQuinn, widow, at Atlantic Ave near Nostrand Ave. In 1866, there is a Margaret McQuinn, widow, at Atlantic near Clove Rd. In the 870 census, there is a Margaret McQueen, age 72, born in Scotland, living as an inmate in the St. John's Episcopal Church Charity Foundation of Long Island, est. Feb. 185, for aged indigent persons and the welfare of orphans. Possibly at Albany Ave. and S. Herkimer.4 |

Obituary | 6 September 1893 | 6 September 1893, Logansport, Cass County, Indiana, Logansport Pharos-Tribune Obituary:. Oscar Pratt, son of the late Seth Pratt, died at the home of his mother, Mrs. Emma Pratt, on Broadway Sunday morning of typhoid fever, aged 17 years. Oscar was a bright and companionable boy who was regarded most highly by his associates, and his death comes as a sharp blow to them and to his widowed mother. His illness was not of long duration, and his death was not expected, making the blow all the more severe. He had for two years past been a clerk at D.E. Pryor's drug store and his affability and attention to duty had made him a general favorite. He was a studious boy and possessed of excellent qualifications, giving great promise of a useful life. It is sad this promising career should thus have been cut short. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the family residence, services conducted by Rev. D. P. Putnam. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery. |
