Research Note		Milton Tilley's chart lists Edward as the father of Elisha Smith who married Sarah Sanford in Portsmouth, 1730. However, Arnold's Vital Records, quoting Portsmouth Book 1, p. 217, says that Elisha was "of Richard and Elizabeth of Newport." Rhode Island Town Marriages Index, 1639-1916 lists the marriage of Elisha and Sarah, and lists his father as Edward Smith, mother Elizabeth, and her parents as William Sanford and mother Hope.
