Sarah Bennett
F, #10175, b. about 1788
Parents
Biography
Birth | about 1788 | Sarah Bennett was born about 1788. In Family Search, Sarah Bennett's record is KZ8Y-SPB, and a birthplace is listed as Glen Cove, Nassau County, New York. There is no source for this fact. No parents are listed for Sarah.
There is a will abstract for James Bennett (Bennet) of Oyster Bay. Will probated 1805. Heirs: wife Elizabeth and daughter Sarah Executors: Wife Elizabeth, Jacob Mudge and Lewis Valentine Witnesses: William Mudge, David Valentine and Luther Seaver. |
Marriage | 26 February 1807 | Capt. Peter Knapp, III, and she were married on 26 February 1807 in New York City, New York County, New York, by Rev. McClay.
I don't see a Rev. McClay in the 1807 New York directory. There are 23 Bennetts listed.1 |
Death | | She died, date unknown A death date of 1828 is listed in her tree on Family Search. There is no source. This date is also listed on Findagrave. There seems to be something wrong here. The Hale Collection of Headstone Inscriptions, which read the gravestones in 1934-5, lists: "Knapp, Sarah, wife of Peter, died Sept. 11, 1829, age 71 yrs 2 mos."
A death date of 11 Sep 1829 at age 71 gives a birth date of about Jul 1758. Sarah Bennett's husband Peter Knapp III was born in 1779, so it is unlikely that he married a woman born in 1758.
At the time of the photograph taken on Findagrave, 2015, only about 6 inches of Sarah's stone is showing, or it is just a small footstone, and the only readable inscription says S.K. It does not appear to have room for the detailed inscription that was recorded by the WPA in 1935 for the Hale Collection. |
