Biography
Research Note | | Note on this Pittenger family. From Tress Pittenger's "Pittenger Families" in his section on Cietje/Sophia Pittenger Smalley 1742:
Several of the genealogies show this last child of Hendrick and Maria Louw born about 1742 in Harlingen and married to Isaac Smalley without any other information...Pippenger says Isaac was the son of John Smalley and he and Sophia had Hendrick who was baptized 17 May 1767, at the Neshanic DRC; possibly Richard who was born about 1768 and married Catherine Emmons (was she a sister of Anchor Emmons who married Richard Pittenger, son of Jacob and Charity Hagerman?); Isaac baptized 6 October 1771, in the Neshanic Church; Abraham baptized 29 May 1774, at Neshanic and John who married Elizabeth Bradfield. D.F. Sattler of Woodville, Ohio has prepared a diagram of the intermarriages of the Smalleys, Smiths and Pittengers. It is quite complicated as four of the children of Henry Pittenger (Sophia's nephew) and Polly Barcus, married four children of Alexander and Ann Smith in Ohio and some of their children married Smalley cousins."1 |
