Hans Paulus Moser
M, #5554, b. between 1708 and 1716, d. about 1780
Biography
Research Note | | Please refer to the article by Charles Kerchner on German naming customs at http://www.kerchner.com/germname.htm. He gives a detailed explanation of the saints' names or spiritual names, which preceded Germans' secular or call names (Rufnamen). In one family, all the males commonly had the same saint's name, commonly Johan or Hans, or George, and were known by their middle names. For girls, common saint's names were Maria and Anna. |
Research Note | | On the Berks County PAGenWeb site, "Berks County, Pennsylvania Genealogy" there is a Moser pedigree in the Family Files section:
Moser Family
Hans Paulus Moser is person # 32 in that document. According to that document, Paulus had 14 children by his first wife, Elizabeth Dunckel, and 9 children by his second wife, Eva Becholt.
This family tree descends from two of these children, one of the first wife (Andreas/Andrew) and one of the second wife (Paul Tobias).
Andrew is # 45 and Tobias is # 49. Tobias's son George is #73. For George #73, I do not know where the 3 children listed were sourced. I have sourced George's children from the 1850 census.
The documentation for this material is not shown. I have no knowledge of the confidence level of the material. Sources that I have viewed myself are cited on my website, and in some cases have attached images. |
Research Note | | Anita Mott writes the following in her "Mosser/Musser Family" concerning Hans Paulus Mosser:
"Hans Paulus Mosser is perhaps even more of an enigma than either Hans Martin Mosser or Hans Adam Mosser, for there appear to have been three immigrants by that name. [note: Martin and Adam are two other immigrants she traces in her book.] Many believe that the one who came on the Adventure, which sailed from Rotterdam under Master Robert Carson, arriving in Philadelphia on 23 Sep 1732, to be the brother of Martin and Adam. For this reason, he is included in this work. Hans Paul is listed as 'under sixteen' in Pennsylvania Archives, 3rd Series, Vol. 17 passenger lists, but as age twenty-four in the same list as published by a man named Knittle. Strassburger-Hinke do not list his age. Since he signed the ship's manifesto, it would appear that he was at least sixteen. He appears in New Hanover Church records (Montgomery County, Pennsylvania) as having a wife named Elisabeth, who died 8 Apr 1749. She was described at her funeral, conducted by Rev. Henry Muhlenberg at the New Hanover Church as being a 'young' woman."1 |
Birth | between 1708 and 1716 | Hans Paulus Moser was born between 1708 and 1716 in Germany.1 |
Immigration | 23 September 1732 | He immigrated on 23 September 1732 to Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, on the ship Adventure, from Rotterdam.2 |
Marriage | about 1738 | He and Elisabeth Dunckel were married about 1738 in Pennsylvania3 |
Marriage | 10 August 1749 | He and Eva Becholt were married on 10 August 1749 at New Hanover Lutheran Church in New Hanover, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, New Hanover Lutheran Church is located in what is now Gilbertsville, Montgomery Couny, Pennsylvania.3,4 |
Address | 1752 | As of 1752, Hans lived where he owned land adjoining land of John Yeager. Falkner Swamp is now in Gilbertsville, Montgomery County, PA. Perhaps this John Yeager is the John Yeager that Eva married 2nd after Paul's death.4 |
Address | 1767 | As of 1767, Hans lived in Forks Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.4 |
Church Affiliation | 6 April 1776 | As of 6 April 1776, Hans was affiliated with St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 330 Ferry Street, in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. as evidenced by the Communicants listing in the church register, which lists "Paul Moser", and underneath, "Eva wife."5 |
Death | about 1780 | He died about 1780 in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, His will was probated in 1780.4 |
