MISS ESMERALDA BROWN FORMERLY LIVED HERE - Deceased Was Daughter of Joshua and Jane Brown and Sister of Mrs. H.C. Tilley Miss Esmeralda Brown, who died Wednesday in her seventy-first year, was a daughter of the late Joshua C. and Jane Brown, who were residents here many years ago, after living for different periods in the far west. She had lived here several years, with her sister, Mrs. Herbert C. Tilley. Mrs. Nebraska B. Tilley, widow of Abram A. Tilley, who died last July was also a sister, and another was Miss California Brown, who married Daniel M. Chase of Middletown. A brother, Joshua C. Brown, lives in the West. The late Joshua Brown was one of the Western pioneers, a Forty-niner, who traveled across the country in a covered wagon. He named his daughters Nevada, Nebraska, California, after the states in which they were born. Brown: Joshua Coggeshall Brown, 78, resident of the Maxwell section for the last year and a half, died at 6:40 last evening in Colusa Memorial Hospital where he has been a patient for two weeks. He was born in Middletown, Rhode Island, February 19, 1866. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Goldie Sather and Mrs. Mabel Miller of Auburn, Mrs. Laura Powell of Maxwell and a son, William Brown, of Paskenta. Twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive. Brown was a member of Rhode Island Lodge No. 12, I.O.O.F., of Newport, and also a member of Weenat Shassitt Tribe Improved Order of Redman, Hunting Grounds of Newport.
